Why Direct Care Is Hiring Again This Fall
Caregiving is one of the few corners of the Tucson job market that never really stops recruiting. Families across the metro lean on in-home caregivers, group-home staff and job coaches to keep relatives with disabilities or age-related needs living independently. That work is hands-on: helping with meals, bathing, medication reminders, rides to appointments and, for job coaches, standing beside a client on their first weeks at a new job.
The three events below are employer recruitments posted by Pima County's One-Stop hiring events calendar. Neither employer has published a headcount or pay rate for these dates, so treat them as a chance to get in front of a recruiter, not a promise of a set number of openings.
Brighter View Foundation Hiring Event — Monday, Oct. 5
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | DES East Tucson Office (ARIZONA@WORK)
Brighter View Foundation is a Glendale-based nonprofit that works with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The county lists three roles for this event: direct support professional, direct care worker and job coach. Its website lists programs in Maricopa, Pinal and Yuma counties, so ask the recruiter where Tucson-area hires would actually work before you commit. Confirm before you go: the county's listing and the office's own page give different street directions for the same building on Alvernon Way, so call the Pima County One-Stop at 520-724-7700 or the East Tucson office at 520-872-9095 to check the address. This one is tomorrow, so pull your resume together tonight.
AccentCare Caregiver Recruiting Event — Monday, Oct. 12
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Pima County One-Stop Kino Service Center, 2797 E Ajo Way
AccentCare, a national home care and home health company with a personal care office in Tucson, is recruiting caregivers at the county's Kino job center on the south side, just off Ajo Way near the Kino Sports Complex. The county calls the site the Kino Resource Center; ARIZONA@WORK lists it as the Kino Service Center. Same building. In-home caregiving usually means driving between clients, so ask about mileage, scheduling and whether shifts run weekdays, weekends or overnights. You can also browse openings ahead of time on AccentCare's careers site.
Brighter View Foundation Hiring Event — Tuesday, Oct. 13
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Goodwill Career Center, 3725 E Fort Lowell Rd
Brighter View comes back for a second, longer day at the Goodwill Career Center on Fort Lowell Road, east of Alvernon. This round adds a fourth title to the list: vocational rehabilitation employment specialist, a role that helps clients find and keep jobs and tends to suit people with case management or workforce experience. If you miss the Oct. 5 date, this is your second shot at the same employer.
🔎 How to Pick the Right Ones
- New to caregiving: AccentCare on Oct. 12 is the straight caregiver recruitment. Ask what training they provide for new hires.
- Experience with disabilities or group homes: Either Brighter View date. Oct. 13 gives you a longer window if you work mornings.
- Case managers, counselors and workforce pros: Brighter View on Oct. 13, the only date listing the employment specialist role.
- Need a job this week: Brighter View on Oct. 5, tomorrow. Confirm the address first.
What to Bring to Any of Them
- Several printed copies of your resume, with any caregiving you've done for family listed plainly
- A photo ID, plus your fingerprint clearance card, CPR or first aid card if you have them
- Your driver's license and proof of insurance if you'll drive to clients
- The days and hours you can actually work, written down
- Questions about pay, mileage, training and how soon you could start
Don't have the certificates yet? The Direct Care Jobs AZ program, run by Pima Council on Aging with United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, lists free pre-employment help including a TB test, fingerprint clearance card and CPR and first aid classes, along with a 24-hour direct care worker training.
Other Hiring Events This Week
Not set on caregiving? Different event, different requirements. The Pima County Community Job Fair runs Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Kino Event Center, and Alorica's customer support hiring event hits the same Goodwill Career Center on Thursday, Oct. 8. The county also lists a UniSea recruitment at the Kino Service Center on Wednesday, Oct. 7, but those seafood processing and maintenance jobs are in Dutch Harbor, Alaska and Redmond, Washington, not Tucson.
